AHA PALS Provider is an advanced video-based, instructor-led course focusing on pediatric advanced life support skills for use in both in-facility and prehospital settings. PALS emphasizes the importance of basic life support CPR in regards to patient survival and the integration of advanced cardiovascular life support interventions. The goal of the PALS course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill children, resulting in improved overall outcomes. Students in advanced life support courses are not required to have a current BLS Healthcare Provider card, but they are expected to be proficient in BLS skills.
This course is for any healthcare professional who has taken a PALS course within the past two years and is in need of renewal. Students must hold a valid PALS card in order to take this course.
AHA PALS Provider is a video-based, instructor-led course where students participate in hands-on practical scenarios. Before taking the PALS course, students must pass the online PALS Precourse Self-Assessment with a score of 70% or higher. During the course, students must be able to demonstrate skills competency in all learning stations, and pass the 1 and 2 Rescuer Child BLS With AED and the 1 and 2 Rescuer Infant BLS Skills Tests. As well, students must pass two PALS core case scenarios (1 cardiac and 1 respiratory or shock) as a team leader, providing appropriate medical treatment and demonstrating effective team dynamics. At the end of the course, students must pass the PALS Provider written exam with a score of 84% or higher.
Students must begin the process to claim credits within 60 days of their completion of the course. The number of credits depends on the profession and the accrediting body who is going to evaluate, examine, and determine the number of credits awarded. After a PALS class, submit a request for credits by emailing info@codeblueedu.com. Once your request is received, CodeBlue Education will submit your roster to the AHA so they can have proof you attended the class. Shortly after, you will receive a form to complete and send in to your accrediting organization. The AHA offers continuing medical education (CME) or continuing education (CE) credits for some of its CPR and ECC courses, and CME/CE may also be offered for live events.
Students shall receive their AHA PALS Provider eCard within 24 hours of course completion. This certification is valid for two years. Students can expect to receive an email from ecards@heart.org or noreply@heart.org, with a link to claim their eCard.
